WSU jobs accelerator announced for Penrith

Thanks to its strategic location and quality educational institutions, Penrith could become the home of a new collaboration hub under a proposal revealed by Western Sydney University.

The vision for the Tech Jobs Accelerator was revealed by Western Sydney University earlier this month.

Taking the form of a three-storey facility at the university’s Penrith campus, the facility is intended to create new jobs and increase technology uptake in industries such as advanced manufacturing and construction.

According to Professor Barney Glover AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University the Accelerator will build on the region’s strength in the start-up space. “The accelerator will create an interface between education and industry, ensuring a seamless connection between learning, training and employment” said Professor Glover.

With a view to explore partnerships with international organisations located in the Western Sydney aerotropolis, locating in Penrith will provide the Accelerator the necessary proximity and connectivity to do so.

The hub is proposed to sit adjacent to the NSW TAFE Institute for Applied Technology for Construction, formerly known as the Construction Centre for Excellence.

The Institute, a flagship training centre to be built on the NSW TAFE Nepean campus, will deliver cross-disciplinary construction skills to enable workers to build smart cities of the future. Pending NSW Government approval, the Institute is expected to commence construction in late 2021, due to open in early 2023.
