In this edition of Australian Made in Penrith, we learn more about Custom Furniture Design.
Susana Garcia, owner of Custom Furniture Design, started her career in the upholstered furniture industry over 30 years ago in St Marys. The convenience that St Marys offers, as well as the ongoing growth of Penrith and Western Sydney means Ms Garcia continues to base her own business in the suburb.
Custom Furniture Design is a family owned and operated Australian manufacturing business with over 35 years of experience in creating upholstered lounge suites, sofa beds, bedheads and offering repair services. All their lounges are made in their St Marys factory and meet the highest Australian standards.
Operations Manager Fabian Garcia is passionate about the need for local manufacturing.
“Australian manufacturing is such an important sector as it provides job opportunities for locals as well as an alternative to the non tech savvy individuals to use their hands and create something that will last for years."
"It also provides consumers faster turnaround times for their products which has been evident in the last few years with this pandemic and its effects on shipping from overseas.” said Mr Garcia.
Looking ahead, Fabian hopes the business will be able to expand in the coming years to incorporate both the manufacturing and retail sides of the business in the one location. Customers would be welcomed in to see and experience upholstery processes first-hand to appreciate the craftsmanship involved.
Penrith’s growing population, and the prospect of more local businesses generated by the Western Sydney International Airport, is an opportunity Custom Furniture Design is ready to seize.
“More people and homes equal more opportunities for us to put Australian, locally made upholstered furniture into homes and businesses.”
