Council is taking the first step to maximise the economic benefits of innovation in the city through a survey to local startup enterprises.
The survey forms part of the Penrith Innovation Ecosystem Mapping project. Innovation ecosystems include organisations, individuals and networks that foster the development and adoption of new business ideas.
Startups have the potential for rapid growth, leading to high levels of employment. To attract and retain startups it is essential to have a supportive innovation ecosystem.
Council is keen to understand the Penrith innovation ecosystem to guide how Council can support its growth and attract and retain new startups to the city. Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sydney, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Western Sydney University (WSU) are among Council’s partners on the project.
For the purpose of this project, startups are defined as businesses that are young, small, high growth, use technology, and/or are looking to solve a global problem.
Businesses that fit the criteria are asked to complete the 5-10 minute survey about their work. This will assist in mapping the current innovation ecosystem so that potential growth opportunities can be identified.
