Penrith’s innovative manufacturing credentials have been affirmed by the news that a local business will help transform NSW’s bus fleet.
St Marys bus manufacturer Custom Denning has been awarded a $70 million contract to deliver electric buses for the NSW Government.
The contract now means the manufacturer will be delivering more than 100 buses as part of the move to zero-emissions technology.
For over 60 years, Custom Denning have been the benchmark of bus and coach design and are committed to investing into the newest technologies for the continued production of market leading buses that provide ease of operation, reduced operator costs, and increased safety and comfort.
Custom Denning are proud employers of over 150 staff at two sites located in St Marys, many of which are Penrith residents.
Custom Denning National Contracts Manager Grant Mascord says “Australian manufacturing is important as it will be needed both for the economy to recover after COVID and it will also help the local economy by creating jobs for the area. It will also give opportunities and paths out of school for the youth of the area with apprenticeships.”
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet made the contract announcement during a tour of the St Marys facility and commented on the strength of the business “This is a true Western Sydney success story”.
Looking to the future, Custom Denning is exploring the potential to export their buses into the right-hand drive markets of the world, with the UK being a major target. With this expected expansion, the business will look to acquire a larger property within the Penrith region to enable the whole production on one site.
