Investment to flow to Penrith via new program

Penrith has been named as one of 15 Western Sydney local government areas to benefit from $5 billion of investment from the NSW Government’s WestInvest program.

Penrith Mayor Tricia Hitchen welcomed the announcement, confirming that Penrith City will be submitting projects for funding consideration.

“Our City is undoubtably undergoing a massive transformation already with the arrival of the Western Sydney International airport on our doorstep.

“We hope this additional funding boost will help to deliver our vision for Penrith as the most attractive place to live, work, and do business”.

$2 billion of the investment will be allocated to a Community Project Fund. This will include a mix of direct funding to the 15 eligible councils as well as a competitive grant process open to non-government organisations and local councils.

The first wave of the program will launch in late March 2022, with a focus on transformational projects that will deliver immediate community benefit.

The remaining $3 billion of the fund will be accessible by NSW Government agencies to deliver projects that enhance communities in Western Sydney.

On making the announcement last month, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet highlighted the fast pace of Western Sydney’s growth.

“This unprecedented boost will capitalise on the major investments we have made in critical projects, such as Metro West and Western Sydney Aerotropolis, to transform Western Sydney,” said Mr Perrottet.

Funding for the first wave of the program will be awarded in September 2022.

The NSW Government is seeking community input into the WestInvest program from now until the end of March 2022. Residents can submit their ideas via the WestInvest website or by calling 02 9228 5260.
