The NSW Government’s Uptown Accelerator is back for 2023, and Penrith City Council is excited to be participating in this Investment NSW program for the first time.
Uptown Accelerator is an eight-week capacity-building program to support the development of vibrant and distinct going-out districts across Greater Sydney.
The Uptown Accelerator is designed to fast-track the formation of local business communities and facilitate their growth into vibrant going out hubs in line with the NSW Government’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy for Greater Sydney. It’s a business accelerator format for those committed to collaboration and place-based story-telling, and the program offers successful applicants an eight-week sprint, which covers:
- aligning teams around a vision for their district;
- developing a unique brand for marketing the district;
- provide incorporation and governance support;
- equipping teams to secure partners and sponsors;
- developing grant-writing skills for the team;
- build a pitch to attract investment into their district.
Last year, 30 district teams (representing more than 150 businesses) across Greater Sydney took part in the inaugural Uptown Accelerator, with 23 teams presenting their district vision to an audience of 240 potential partners and collaborators at the District Showcase event in November 2022.
Since then, many of these districts have been leveraging major events, partnering with brands, and coordinating programming across multiple venues through successful district activations.
