Better Connections through the Road Network

The Penrith community can look forward to reduced congestion and improved safety and connectivity along one of Penrith’s busiest road corridors with the planning for the $128 million Dunheved Road Upgrade nearing completion.

Map of planned upgrade locations along Denheved RdThe upgrade, funded by the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program, is an essential investment in Penrith’s infrastructure to improve the overall efficiency and safety of the road and ensure it can cater for future traffic demands.  The project forms part of Penrith’s City Council’s commitment to creating a well-connected city and improving the local road network to make it quicker and safer for residents, business owners, and visitors to get around Penrith now and into the future.

Community feedback during consultation has helped shape the final design, and this upgrade will transform the existing two-lane undivided road into a median separate four-lane carriageway with a shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists.  Key features include three new signalised intersections, new dedicated turning lanes at existing intersections, three new roundabouts, and new signalised pedestrian crossings.

The construction tender process will begin late 2023, and construction is expected to start in early 2024. The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. You can view all the features of the upgrade in an updated 3D video at: www.penrith.city/dunhevedroad
