Penrith is set to usher in the summer at the newly upgraded Regatta Park, with Stage 1 of the much-anticipated development now open.
This picturesque location on the Nepean River promises not only a haven for locals seeking recreation but also a magnet for visitors, driving economic prosperity for the city.
Regatta Park's first stage offers a blend of lush green spaces, family-friendly amenities, and a revitalised riverfront. Families, fitness enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike will find something to enjoy, from sprawling picnic and barbeque areas to state-of-the-art playgrounds, and the community can now revel in an array of outdoor activities, from leisurely strolls along the riverbank to thrilling water sports. This marks a pivotal moment for Penrith, transforming the riverfront into a vibrant community hub in time for the summer holidays.
As the city gears up for an influx of visitors, local cafes are poised to reap the benefits of the heightened foot traffic, with Regatta Park becoming a go-to summer destination. Nearby cafes such as Laughin’ Boy in the historic Police Cottage, Emu Hall, or The Log Cabin just over the Yandhai Nepean Crossing can expect increased patronage.
The $34.2 million upgrade of Regatta Park aligns with Council's commitment to creating vibrant, accessible public spaces that contribute to the health and well-being of the community. Stage 2 will open in early 2024 and includes a junior cricket oval, outdoor gym equipment, more car parking spaces, central staircase leading to the river foreshore, and a new shared path. An additional 400 new trees are set to be planted throughout the precinct to increase Penrith’s green grid, provide natural shade, as well as help create a shaded link from Penrith’s City Centre to the Nepean River.
A 112-metre pavilion with undercover water play, amenities building, and kiosk will open in mid-2024 with the completion of Stage 3.
