Chinese delegation experience what Penrith has to offer

Delegates from Kunshan, China, gained a sense of the scale of opportunities in Penrith as they visited a host of key sites across the City last month.

Kunshan is one of Penrith’s International Partner cities, with Penrith and Kunshan sharing a Friendship Agreement for over 20 years. The relationship is built on the ambition to develop trade, business, and cultural opportunities between the two cities.

Mayor of Penrith, Cr Todd Carney had the pleasure of welcoming the first delegation from Kunshan in five years after years of disrupted international travel due to COVID. Among the group were government representatives from the Standing Committee of the Kunshan Municipal People’s Congress, Dianshanhu Town, and Zhouzhuang Town.

After a formal welcome at Council Chambers, the delegates visited several key sites across Penrith and surrounds to gain insights into the innovation and growth opportunities taking place now and into the future.

The delegation visited the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Western Sydney University to see their award-winning solar car project. At the Institute of Applied Technology Construction, the group toured this brand-new facility that is bridging skill gaps in the construction sector to help build the cities of the future. The Kunshan delegation were also eager to know more about the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility and the greater context of the new Western Sydney International Airport and Metro.
