This month, Penrith Made turns its focus to the economic and social benefits of festivals and events, including a new Council event, Penrith Producers.
Penrith Producers is a carefully curated evening event that will showcase Penrith Made foods and drinks to residents, workers and visitors in an atmosphere enlivened by local musicians and artists.
According to Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM, a vibrant and robust night time economy is vital to the success of any city. As such it is a key priority in Council’s draft Local Strategic Planning Statement, currently on public exhibition (see our feature story here).
“Home-grown events help foster a thriving night time economy,” Cr Fowler said. “They not only encourage locals to socialise and shop close to home, they attract visitors and help fulfil Council’s vision for our future city.”
Cr Fowler described the event as a collaboration between Council, local producers and musicians.
“Our aim is to let people know about some of the great products coming out of Penrith, but also to build ties between producers and musicians to encourage future partnerships,” he said.
Penrith Producers is part of Council’s ongoing work to activate the Penrith and St Marys city centres, including events like Lunchtime Tunes, Alive After 5, Open Mic nights and Summer Tunes – you can follow Council’s Facebook page to keep up to date.
“These activations have been highly successful,” Cr Fowler said. “They encourage people to stay in Penrith and increase foot traffic in the CBD. In addition, nearby businesses have reported a 100% increase in takings on event nights.”
The benefits flow on post-event too.
“They remind people of what’s available, so they come out again after dark to enjoy alfresco dining or to catch up with friends,” Cr Fowler said. “They also show businesses what’s possible. Several local cafes have put on their own entertainment after seeing what a boost it can give.”
Penrith Producers will be held on Friday 22 November from 5-10pm in Triangle Park. Come along for the chance to discover local craft beers from Caseys and Rusty Penny breweries, coffee from Underground Coffee Roasters, sweet treats from Dolce Mia Pasticceria, small goods from Montecatini and more.
