Report says Deal progress on track

The first Annual Progress Report for the Western Sydney Deal will soon be released. The document outlines key achievements of the past 12 months, including improved transport connections, access to jobs, liveability and housing.

Compiled by the Greater Sydney Commission, the Progress Report indicates work is well underway to deliver a vibrant, well connected Western Parkland City.

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said the report was evidence that tri-government collaboration was key to the success of the Western Sydney City Deal and the Western Parkland City itself.

“The next 20 years will bring unprecedented growth and transformative change in the Western Parkland City,” he said.

“The City Deal provides a shared vision, mutual cooperation, and a coordinated approach to planning and delivery so that we can manage that growth and preserve what we most love about Penrith.”

Cr Fowler said in just 12 months, the City Deal had already delivered massive benefits for Western Sydney, including:

• the $150 million Liveability Program to create open spaces and rejuvenated town centres
• a Planning Partnership between local councils, boosted by a $15 million federal funding package to streamline planning and housing development and the $30 million Western Sydney Parkland Housing package, and
• the commitment of $5.5 billion to fund the first stage of the Sydney Metro Greater West (formerly known as North South Rail Link) which will improve connections to employment opportunities and services.

The City Deal is forecast to foster the creation of around 200,000 jobs in our region.
