Future Regatta Park a crowd pleaser

Plans for an upgrade to Regatta Park will continue to improve amenity and access to the Nepean River and attract more visitors to Penrith.

Council is developing the $24 million Regatta Park as part of the Western Sydney City Deal’s Liveability Program, which is designed to create neighbourhoods that are liveable, sustainable and healthy. The program is jointly funded by the NSW and Australian governments, which are delivering $15 million to the project, and $9 million in funding will come from Council.

The park enhancements were identified during extensive community consultation conducted by Council on the Our River Masterplan in 2013. The upgraded park will include event and festival areas, river terraces, a children’s playground and playing fields.

Council’s long-held plans to maximise the potential of Regatta Park will give a further boost to this well-loved part of Penrith which is already complemented by the popular Yandhai Nepean Crossing, the expanding east bank dining precinct and the redevelopment of Emu Hall into a restaurant and bar.

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said the project capitalised on investment coming into the area. Further, when viewed alongside other major projects such as the new City Park in the heart of the City Centre, Sydney Metro Greater West (formerly referred to as North South Rail) and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Regatta Park would help transform Penrith into the most liveable city in Western Sydney.
