As 2019 drew to a close, the first sod was turned on the $50 million Nepean Health Hub. Described as a ‘one-stop-shop’, the Hub is adjacent to the $1 billion redevelopment of Nepean Public Hospital and deliver a healthy economic injection into the construction and medical industries in Penrith.
Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM congratulated developer Cornerstone Building Developments for its investment in Penrith.
The Mayor said the Hub would help to fill service gaps, create more local jobs and further enhance The Quarter – Penrith’s award-winning health and education precinct. Penrith Council is one of 10 key stakeholders in The Quarter.
“Together, we’re positioning Penrith as a centre of excellence in research, education and medical advancements, and, importantly, achieving better outcomes for our communities,” Cr Fowler said.
The six-storey Nepean Health Hub will provide space for General Practitioners, specialists, research, allied and mental health services, dental services, diagnostic imaging and more.
According to Cr Fowler, the Hub, and the experts it will attract, will play an important role in delivering improved outcomes as Penrith’s population continues to grow and change.
“And of course, in the face of future growth the health and education sectors have a major role to play in the strength of our economy,” he said.
Health care and social assistance and education are among the fastest growing employment sectors in Penrith, accounting for around 20% of jobs growth in the five years since 2014. The Quarter is positioned to generate around 6,000 more knowledge jobs of the future, including 120 full-time health sector jobs to be created at the Hub.
The Nepean Health Hub is expected to open by mid-2021.
