Penrith City Council has released a video outlining how Sydney Metro Greater West can contribute to the delivery of significant economic benefit to the region.
Rail changes everything. The Sydney Metro Greater West will connect Penrith to the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and unlock the limitless potential in the New West. Penrith City Council have released a video this week outlining how the metro line can deliver the full economic benefit to the region.
The video highlights that “Penrith is critical to the future of Sydney” and that Council is “working to make sure Sydney Metro Greater West delivers for Penrith”.
Sydney Metro Greater West will connect Penrith to the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport from day one of operations. To-date, station locations have been confirmed at the airport, Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and St Marys. Council is calling on Sydney Metro to confirm additional stations to service The Quarter (Penrith’s Health and Education Precinct) Sydney Science Park and Orchard Hills.
In a statement that accompanied the video’s release, Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM stated “Our region needs a public transport network that can service our growing population and connect residents to jobs, education, health services and housing of the future. A train line is the first step, but a train line is only effective when people have a train station to access it.”
The Australian and NSW Governments committed to build the Sydney Metro Greater West line as part of the Western Sydney City Deal agreement in March 2018. The metro line is due to be operational when Western Sydney International Airport opens in 2026.
In an update announced last week; Sydney Metro is seeking feedback from stakeholders to provide them with insights into local area transport priorities. Stakeholders can participate in the survey until 20 March 2020.
