Exact station locations have been released for the Western Sydney Airport line that will connect Penrith New West to the Western Sydney International Airport.
Exact station locations have been confirmed for the Western Sydney Airport line that will connect Penrith New West to the Western Sydney International Airport.
St Marys’ place as a Strategic Centre will be reinforced with the delivery of a metro station under the existing Sydney Trains rail station. St Marys will become an important transport interchange connecting the airport to the rest of Sydney and the surrounding area to the Metro service. Council is finalising work on plans to guide investment and development in the area as the town undergoes this transformative change.
Tunnelling will connect the St Marys interchange to the proposed Orchard Hills station south of the M4. The station will service a future residential, commercial and mixed-use precinct.
Orchard Hills will also be home to the Sydney Metro Trains Facility. The purpose-built operational control centre will monitor every aspect of the state-of-the-art driverless system as well as providing the maintenance needs associated with running the critical infrastructure.
The Luddenham station is proposed near Luddenham Road and will support the future development within the Penrith’s Northern Gateway Precinct and a master planned science and education estate. The precinct, within Western Sydney Aerotropolis, was recently rezoned for employment uses by the NSW Government. With 4,000 hectares of greenfield land, the Northern Gateway will provide astute businesses with an opportunity to build bespoke facilities with transport links across road, rail and air.
The six-station metro is expected to start construction in late 2020, due to be operational when the airport opens in 2026. For more information on the project, visit the Sydney Metro website.
