The $1 billion redevelopment of Nepean Hospital reached its highest peak with construction reaching milestones and further plans revealed.
Nepean Hospital’s 14 storey tower has reached its highest point of construction, completing the concrete structure late last month. The new tower will be one of the tallest hospital buildings in Australia when it opens to patients in 2022. Delivering 16 operating theatres, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 18 birthing suites, an expanded Emergency Department and more than 200 additional beds, the building will provide additional capacity to service Penrith New West’s growing population.
Concept designs for Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment have now been released, along with the announcement that funding has been brought forward by two years. Currently in the planning and design phase, Stage 2 will house a range of services including cardiology, medical imaging and Nuclear Medicine, and an in-centre Renal Dialysis Unit. Construction on Stage 2 will commence following the completion of Stage 1.
During a recent visit to Nepean Hospital, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said “The redeveloped Nepean Hospital will be a gamechanger for the region”.
Sitting within The Quarter, Penrith’s Health and Education Precinct, the Nepean Redevelopment is one of many new services opening in the precinct in coming years. Nepean Health Hub is currently under construction and will provide space for a variety of specialists, researchers, diagnostic imaging and more. Planning approval has also been given for a 90-bed private hospital in Kingswood, which will specialise in rehabilitation and mental health services.
The recently opened Somerset Specialist Centre provides a much-needed local service for cancer patients including access to world-class cancer treatments, highly respected clinicians and the latest treatment and research programs.
