Bradfield becomes Penrith’s newest neighbour

The city centre of Western Sydney’s aerotropolis will be called Bradfield, the NSW Government announced earlier this month.

The suburb, just south of Penrith City, has been named in honour of John Bradfield. Bradfield was an engineer who oversaw the design and construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and original Sydney railway network in the early 20th century.

Bradfield and the other precincts surrounding the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will become major economic drivers for the Western Parkland City in coming decades. The NSW Government expects the region to deliver up to 200,000 jobs.

The name Bradfield was selected after a community callout to “Name the Place” in 2020. A panel made the final decision, with Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres indicating other suggested names would be considered for streets, parks and other landmarks in Bradfield.
