A 24-hour road and rail transport hub is being considered for St Marys by the Department of Planning and Environment’s Major Projects division.
The applicant, Pacific National, says the freight hub would increase rail-freight traffic, reduce road congestion and create 60 jobs during construction and more than 150 new full-time jobs during operation.
The proposal includes the staged construction of a road and rail terminal and container park with an ultimate capacity of 300,000 shipping containers a year on a 43ha site bounded by Christie Street, Forrester Road and Lee Holm Road, St Marys.
The project is a State Significant Development and the department is now collating submissions.
