Penrith City Council is hosting a free Electronic Waste Drop-Off event on Saturday, 16 March, between 9 am and 3:30 pm at The Kingsway Playing Fields car park in Werrington.
Residents are encouraged to pack their old, broken, and unwanted electronic items into the boot of their car or trailer and bring them to the event for quick, easy and correct disposal.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney is thrilled Council is hosting this popular event again after successfully collecting over 35,000kgs of e-waste from residents at Council’s e-waste events in 2023.
“E-waste is growing at three times the rate of other waste, so we must dispose of it safely and correctly when it reaches the end of its lifecycle or is no longer needed,” Cr Carney said.”
“Council’s E-Waste Drop-Off event allows residents to bring their broken, old or unwanted electrical items down to The Kingsway playing fields car park so that Council staff can ensure they are recovered, reused or recycled correctly.”
Since 2011, Penrith residents have diverted an impressive 734 tonnes of e-waste from landfill sites through Council’s Drop-Off events, and Cr Carney is encouraging residents to continue doing the right thing with e-waste into the future.
"Preventing these items from reaching landfill will not only stop harmful toxins from reaching our environment and wildlife, it also allows us to repurpose valuable resources through recycling. Unfortunately, this potential is lost when these items are discarded in household bins," Cr Carney said.
On the day, Council will accept old, unwanted, and broken televisions, computers, small kitchen appliances, stereos, mobile phones and other electronic waste. A full list of what e-waste is accepted can be found online at penrith.city/e-wasteday.
For residents who miss the event, e-waste can also be taken to the Penrith Community Recycling Centre located at Gate 3, 96 Dunheved Circuit, St Marys, for free recycling year-round. More information is available at penrith.city/CRC
