Did you know Penrith Council offers a free Telephone Interpreter Service for people whose first language is other than English?
One in five Penrith residents were born overseas while one in seven residents speak a language other than English at home.
Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown said that language should not be a barrier when it comes to speaking with Council.
"The Telephone Interpreter Service is available in 160 languages and is completely free for our customers to use," Cr McKeown said.
"Council's website is accessible in a variety of languages, however there are times when our customers need specific details to their enquiry which are best answered by speaking to someone."
"If you have a family member, friend, neighbour or know someone whose first language is other than English and needs to speak to Council then let them know about this free service," Cr McKeown said.
The Telephone Interpreter Service acts as an intermediary translating the customer's language of choice as they speak to Council staff. It's available by calling 131 450 and asking the operator to call Council on 4732 4777.
