Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown has welcomed the $160 million funding commitment from the Federal and State Governments for action on domestic violence, but says more is needed.
Federal funding of $100 million will develop innovative technology to keep women safe, expand support hotlines, establish domestic violence units in legal services and expanding training for frontline services. The State's $60 million funding package targets perpetrators and supports women, men and children who experience domestic and family violence.
"A change in people's attitudes towards violence is needed," Cr McKeown said.
"The establishment of new services and expansion of existing ones is good news however more must be done."
Cr Mc Keown said Penrith City Council has a long standing commitment to combating domestic violence and will continue to do so into the future.
"Council provides ongoing support and assistance to the Nepean Domestic Violence Network to deliver projects and events that raise awareness of domestic and family violence as well as reducing the levels of that violence across the Penrith LGA."
