Earlier this week, Penrith Mayor Councillor John Thain presented Penrith Red Cross representative, Sue Gallagher with a cheque for $3,000 to round out what has been another successful local Red Cross Calling campaign in Penrith in 2018.
Penrith Mayor, Councillor John Thain said Red Cross volunteers have been working hard throughout the entire month of March knocking on doors and collecting donations at various shopping centres and railway stations and I am delighted that Council has been able to contribute to the campaign with their donation.
"This is the 70th annual Red Cross calling campaign to raise vital funds so that the Red Cross can continue their magnificent work that provides invaluable support and relief for people 365 days of the year with their wide variety of community and emergency services," Councillor Thain said.
Amongst other things the local Penrith Red Cross branch knit and distribute the ever popular trauma teddies, they support residents at Uniting Care's Edinglassie Village, serve tea to Red Cross blood donors and they give their time and energy to the Red Cross shop in Penrith.
