Flood catchment survey

“Flooding is a very real issue in many areas of Penrith and Council wants to make sure its planning includes the knowledge that only locals can provide,” said Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM.

“This local knowledge will help us develop realistic and effective plans to reduce the risk and costs of flooding and help people respond in case of an emergency as well as guiding future development in the area under review.

“It is why we are contacting residents in Werrington, Werrington County, Cambridge Park, Kingswood, Caddens, Colyton, Oxley Park, St Marys and North St Marys.

“Information surveys have been sent out by mail to all those living in the within the catchments, they are also on the council web page and we encourage people living in those areas to get them returned to us by the end of October.

“The process also looks at making the community more resilient and prepared, including evacuation education and preparation,” Cr Fowler said.

Background Information

Penrith Council has appointed consultants Catchment Simulation Solutions to prepare Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans for the College, Orth and Werrington Creeks and the Little Creek catchments. 

The College, Orth and Werrington Creeks catchment covers approximately 12 square kilometres across Werrington, Werrington County, Cambridge Park, Kingswood and Caddens, generally bound by the M4 motorway in the south and Dunheved Road in the north.

The Little Creek Catchment covers 4.8 square kilometres across Colyton, Oxley Park, St Marys and North St Marys, roughly bounded by the M4 motorway in the south and Christie Street in the north.
