Graffiti efforts having a positive impact

The continued emphasis on education, prevention and rapid removal is having a positive impact on reducing graffiti levels across Penrith.

Data from Council's graffiti database shows a 46% decrease in required graffiti removal jobs over the last three years.

In 2012-13, a total of 5,581 graffiti removal jobs were completed by Council from private and public property across the city. This compares to 3,042 graffiti removal jobs completed for the 2014-15 financial year.

This is a great statistic, however Mayor of Penrith Councillor Ross Fowler OAM, is urging the community not to be complacent when it comes to reporting graffiti.

"The decline in levels of graffiti is largely attributed to the willingness and assistance of our local community in reporting incidents of graffiti to Council".

"Rapid removal is a proven part of any effective graffiti minimisation strategy and we encourage our local community to report all incidents of graffiti so that we can remove it promptly and see a further reduction," Councillor Fowler said.

How to report graffiti

Call Penrith Council's free-call graffiti hotline on 1800 022 182 or or raise a graffiti report using our online services portal.  Please tell us as much information as possible, including: 

• Location of graffiti - street address, and the nearest cross street if possible
• Type of property the graffiti is on (such as fence, sign, play equipment, wall of building)
• To help the police target hotspots across our City, please also report graffiti attacks to the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
