Grants available for community groups in the Penrith area – is this you?

Penrith City Council is inviting non-profit organisations and community groups to apply for small grants through the annual Community Assistance Program (CAP). 

Penrith City Council is inviting non-profit organisations and community groups to apply for small grants through the annual Community Assistance Program (CAP) to deliver activities or projects that strengthen the community, address community needs and improve opportunities for participation in Penrith City.

Council recognises the challenges that community organisations and groups are facing at the moment. In response, we’re reorienting the latest CAP Grants round so groups can apply more easily and receive the funding sooner, to help community groups to adapt to current challenges.

Community groups can use CAP Grants to:

• stay connected and deliver programs differently

• expand or adapt their services for new and growing needs, or

• purchase resources or develop their skills.

Applications for the 2020-21 CAP grants open at 9am on Monday 4 May and close at 3pm Tuesday 26 May 2020. Groups can apply for up to $1,200 per project. 

Now in its 26th year, Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said that the program provided much-needed support to the many local organisations that dedicate their time to running programs that strengthen our community and benefit residents.

“This year, we’re making CAP faster, easier and more flexible to help community groups adapt to the current challenges,” Cr Fowler said.

“Community groups and local non-profits make a valuable contribution to our City and to the wellbeing of our residents.”

Last year, 50 projects received a total of $40,435 in funding. These included programs to equip young people with basic living skills, clothing for job interviews or court cases for financially disadvantaged people, and IT equipment to provide older people with information on health, wellbeing, cultural heritage and safety.
