Have your say in planning Penrith’s future

Penrith Council is calling on the community to comment on proposed changes to its major planning instruments, including our Local Environment Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP) as well as new draft Development Contributions Plan for non-residential development.   

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said planning for the future was one of Council’s most important roles and described its planning instruments as vital tools to create a connected and liveable City.   “Council uses these planning instruments to ensure development meets our social, environmental and economic needs,” Cr Fowler said. “They control how we grow and help us protect what our community loves most about Penrith. The proposed changes will help us achieve these goals and align our plans with those of the NSW Government.”   

Penrith’s LEP guides planning decisions by managing how land is used and defining how development can occur through zoning and standards. Our DCP provides more detailed planning and design guidelines to support the LEP and better manage land uses, while Development Contributions Plans are a levy on new developments to fund the infrastructure needed to support growth and change in our City.

Changes to the LEP are proposed to align the LEP 2010 with the planning priorities set in the Greater Sydney Commission’s (GSC) Greater Sydney Region Plan – A Metropolis of Three Cities and Western City District Plan. DCP amendments include providing more adult change facilities across the city as well as changes to outdoor dining and controls around boarding houses.   

“I encourage our community to have a say on the proposed changes,” Cr Fowler said.
