Locals shape Council’s plan for advocacy

Council’s plan to secure a better future for the region and its residents through focused and informed advocacy activities, was endorsed by Councillors at last night’s Ordinary Meeting.

Council's plan to secure a better future for the region and its residents through focused and informed advocacy activities, was endorsed by Councillors at last week's Ordinary Meeting.

Council's new Advocacy Strategy provides a detailed overview of the community's long term aspirations for Penrith, and puts forward a plan for Council to work with the community and government to make these projects a reality.

The Strategy introduces several priority projects for Council to advocate for which were informed by the community during extensive consultation for Council's 10-year Community Plan.

Central to Council's advocacy efforts over the next few years are three Flagship Priorities: connecting the City with new roads and the North South Rail Link; securing funding to deliver the Regatta Park Precinct and maximising the opportunities of the Western Sydney Airport to create a vibrant City Centre with a variety of new job opportunities.

Penrith Mayor John Thain said having a clear direction which is informed by residents, combined with strong leadership, will ensure the region receives the investment in infrastructure and services it needs for the future.

"We're witnessing enormous growth and change in Penrith. This growth brings challenges, but it also brings opportunity and we're going to work hard to make the most of these opportunities for a better Penrith, now and into the future," Cr Thain said.

"We are listening to our community, and we're speaking up for them when it counts the most. This collaborative approach has served us well in the past, but there is more work to be done and we're committed to delivering for our residents.

"More local jobs, safer and less congested roads, effective public transport connections, housing diversity, a vibrant city centre, investment in arts and culture, more parking and recreational opportunities are what we're working hard to secure for Penrith."
