Missing link bridges gap in City’s paths

A missing link in the city's shared-use paths has been completed with a bridge over Peach Tree Creek on Jamison Road.

The bridge connects 2 sections of the path - the western section to Tench Reserve and the eastern section to Mulgoa Road.

The shared-use path was jointly funded by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Active Transport Funding and Council through its Special Rate Variation (SRV). Council's previous SRV (2011-15) allowed for the funding of infrastructure renewal, public amenity and domain maintenance, parks and shared pathways and neighbourhood renewal programs.

Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown said the bridge is a great example of delivering infrastructure for the community.

"This project was made possible through the SRV Council has in place to fund projects it would not otherwise be able to," Cr McKeown said.

"The use of SRV funds secured a matching grant from the RMS to fund the project, essentially doubling the reach of the plan to deliver a missing link from Penrith to the river."

"Access to the river has improved for people who like to be active by walking, running or cycling. The bridge has removed the need to cross Peach Tree Creek via the narrow road culvert, keeping cars, cyclists and pedestrians safely apart."

With the completion of the bridge, users of the shared-use path now have access from Penrith to the Our River Precinct at the corner of Tench Avenue and Jamison Road. The path allows for river access from Jamison Road for pedestrians and cyclists using the north-south path from Glenmore Park to Jane Street.
