Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM has welcomed the commencement of works on Mulgoa/Castlereagh Roads saying it will deliver a much better experience for users of the important transport corridor.
Major work on the upgrade of Mulgoa/Castlereagh Roads between Union Road and Museum Drive, including the upgrade of the Jane Street intersection is now underway with construction expected to be completed in late 2020 (weather depending).
Jointly funded by Australian and NSW governments, the upgrade includes an additional lane for both north and south bound traffic on Mulgoa/Castlereagh Roads from Union Road to the south of Museum Drive, as well as upgrades to the Mulgoa Road and High Street intersection and Jane Street T-intersection which will provide increased capacity.
"Council supports the work by the Federal and State Governments to ease congestion along Mulgoa Road," Cr Fowler said.
"This work is vital to ensure the community can go about their work and life with minimal interruptions now and in the future.
"Mulgoa and Castlereagh Roads play an important role in moving people through our city to their homes, for work and for recreation and this upgrade will benefit many in our community."
