A new amenities building will be constructed to service all users of Mark Leece Sporting Complex, thanks to grant funding through the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.

This facility is home to soccer, netball, a skate park, playspace and is utilised by nine local schools.

The grant funding of $1,285,000 secured by Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies will go towards the $1,740,000 rebuild of the amenities block with Penrith Council contributing $455,000 to the project.

"Penrith is a city that loves sport of all kinds. Council recognises how important it is to access sporting fields and modern amenities at those fields," Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said.

The current amenities building is over 35 years old, is not fit for purpose and does not support participation growth, particularly growth in female sport. The new amenities building will be fully accessible and provide:

  • 2 multi-gender change rooms
  • Referees room
  • Canteen
  • Store
  • First Aid room
  • Toilets (for sport and general public use servicing sportsgrounds, netball courts, playspace and skate facility at the complex).
  • Verandah

The project will benefit the operations of St Clair Soccer and St Clair Netball clubs and the education curriculum of nine local schools.

"Council values the importance of working together with community sports groups and the State and Federal governments to provide the best facilities we can. I thank the State Government for its support of this upgrade," Cr Fowler said.

The upgrades complement Council's investment of $500,000 in recent years at Mark Leece Sports Complex in floodlight, field reconstruction, and irrigation that has improved the capacity of the playing surfaces. Council has also converted an unused reserve area at the site to create a training facility and installed a connecting pathway in the park.
