Council launched its first Penrith Community Profile at a breakfast for local community service providers and other stakeholders on 22 November.

The Profile draws on a range of data sources to examine who the people of Penrith are - where we live and work, our education, health and lifestyle, the strengths of the communities we belong to and the challenges we face as our communities grow and change.

Available on Council's website, the 'one-stop' source of current data about the people of Penrith City includes:

  • demographic information, trends and forecasts (from the ABS Census 2016)
  • education statistics (ABS Census 2016)
  • housing (ABS Census 2016, NSW FACS, Greater Sydney Commission)
  • employment, including industries of employment, travel to work data and unemployment (National Institute of Economic and Industry Research 2016, ABS Census 2016)
  • health statistics for the general population and for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups within the community (Social Health Atlas)
  • Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) (ABS Census 2016)
  • social sustainability indicators (Penrith City Council, NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research and the Department of Social Security), and
  • environmental sustainability indicators (Office of Environment and Heritage and NSW Department of Primary Industry).

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said the Profile will be useful for anyone wanting to understand our changing community and City, our strengths as well as the challenges and opportunities facing us.

"I am confident the Penrith Community Profile will be well used, not just by Council and government agencies, but local community organisations and individuals," Cr Fowler said.

"As well as offering interesting insights into who we are, this resource will be valuable when planning and advocating for the needs of our community, and identifying gaps in services," he said.

The Profile will be updated regularly online to ensure it continues to be a valuable resource.
