Survey to capture train pain

Penrith Station users are being asked to share their experiences as part of Council’s advocacy campaign for better parking and more express train services between Penrith and Parramatta. Take the survey...

"State Governments are responsible for providing parking at train stations," Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said. "We know the 1000 space carpark, which opened in 2012, is regularly full and we need more spaces for commuters. We want to know what the next step is to relieve the parking pain.

"We also know people catching trains often use all day spaces in the City Centre which can make it harder for shoppers, workers and other visitors to find parking too."

Council is also pushing for more express services between Penrith and Parramatta to enable people to get to key employment centres more easily and has been speaking to candidates for the major parties ahead of the State election on March 28.

"An express service can be up to 15 minutes quicker between Penrith and Central, and half an hour less a day spent commuting would certainly be welcomed by our residents," Cr Fowler said.

"Ideally we'd like the express train concept explored even further - imagine a dedicated line where a train could get people from Penrith to the city in 25 minutes - it would open up huge job opportunities."

Council staff will be promoting the survey at Penrith station next week by handing out postcards.

"Whether you catch a train regularly or just every now and then, you can help us make the case for better parking and faster trains by taking part in the survey," Cr Fowler said.
