Plans are underway for the development of two new car parks in Penrith to support the city's local business workers, shoppers and commuters.
The new car parks at Soper Place and North Street will increase the number of car parking spaces in the city centre by more than 800 spots, bringing the total number of parking spaces across these two sites to more than 1100 spaces.
Design plans for the new multi-deck car park at Soper Place are currently being sought by Council, with tender submissions from interested parties due by the end of February.
Construction of an additional long-term temporary car park at North Street, between Evan Street and Doonmore Street, will deliver up to 230 unrestricted car parking spaces by the end of 2018.
Penrith Mayor John Thain said the new car parks are a win for the community.
"Council is committed to delivering smart parking options to meet the need of current and future residents, shoppers, businesses and commuters. While these car parks will provide additional space, parking across the city remains a complex issue. As we continue to grow we need to consider all of the transport options and look for alternatives to driving whenever possible, "Cr Thain said.
