Werrington’s state of the art corporate centre opens

The University of Western Sydney’s state of the art $28 million Werrington Park Corporate Centre opened last week: the first stage of a transition of the area that will see some 6000 knowledge jobs of the future created.

The centre will provide established and emerging businesses with contemporary office space and links to the latest research and innovation.  

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM praised the university and past and present Federal Government's for their foresight and funding of the Corporate Centre.

"This outstanding project, which also involved Penrith City Council and the Penrith Business Alliance, was funded by the Australian Government, as part of its Suburban Jobs Program and the University of Western Sydney," Councillor Fowler said.

"The Corporate Centre and the University will be the hub of innovation in Western Sydney and attract further investment, development and innovation."

"The Business Park is the first step in developing a 58-hectare Business Park Precinct that over the next 20 years, is expected to generate 6,000 knowledge jobs in areas such as health, engineering, digital communication and education.

"Council would also like to acknowledge the important role that the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA), of which Penrith City Council is a foundation member, played with its advocacy.

"The NGAA advocates for areas on the outer fringes of Australia's capital cities and uses detailed research to show governments the value of investing in these areas.

"Their research highlights the mismatch of education and job outcomes between the high growth fringe areas and established areas of capital cities.

"The Werrington Business Park is helping to address that imbalance in both education and jobs."

Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Western Sydney Professor Barney Glover, Federal Member for Lindsay Fiona Scott, Federal Minister for Communications Malcolm Turnbull, Penrith City Mayor Ross Fowler OAM and Chancellor Professor Peter Shergold AC at the opening.
