Penrith Council was yesterday made aware of the NSW State Government's proposed future transport corridors for Western Sydney. This announcement is the realisation of 18 months of campaigning for a better integrated transport system to transform our city, and the lives of everyone who lives here.

Western Sydney is the fastest growing region in Australia. These future transport corridors represent smart city planning in action; where infrastructure is planned and delivered in advance, so it can actually keep up with growth.

This is why Penrith Council fully supports the Federal and State Governments' commitment to build a North South Rail Link from St Marys to the Western Sydney Airport by the time it opens in 2026. Research shows that investment in infrastructure accelerates and amplifies economic benefits to a region.

Benefits like more local jobs, greater access to work, affordable housing, world-class health services and education opportunities will transform Penrith and Western Sydney into Australia's first 21^st Century city.

There is no doubt that it's an exciting time for our city, but change of this size and scale doesn't come without costs. As Western Sydney undergoes this major transformation, Council understands that some residents will be affected.

We want to assure those residents that we will be calling on the State Government to treat them fairly and to move swiftly to avoid delay in the delivery of this much needed infrastructure.

This is just the start of the State Government's seven-week process of engagement and consultation for residents and our community stakeholders, including Council. This includes community information sessions and face to face meetings.

A dedicated webpage transport.nsw.gov.au/corridors with an online mapping tool for people to view and zoom in on the corridors to understand what is planned and a hotline 1800 837 511 will provide additional support to residents throughout this period.

Council will review the details of the announcement, assess the local impact of the four proposed corridors, and make a submission to the State Government to ensure all opportunities for this region translate into tangible benefits for our residents.
