Parking Strategy

Council has a plan to manage car parking in the Penrith City Centre. The Penrith City Centre Car Parking Strategy establishes a framework to address current and future parking issues, and sets out actions and initiatives for Council to deliver in the short, medium and long term.

Parking

Council has a number of initiatives in place to make parking in the Penrith City Centre quicker, easier and more efficient for everyone. We are:

  • increasing the turnover of short term spaces in the City Centre
  • building new car parks, to provide more car parking spaces
  • encouraging long-term parking on the edge of the City Centre
  • looking at technology that can improve parking usage and
  • asking the State Government to provide more commuter parking sooner.

Council is delivering more parking spaces in the Penrith City Centre to meet the needs of our growing city. We are:

  • Delivering a new, long-term temporary car park at North Street with capacity for 243 car spaces in 2019
  • Installing another stage of parking sensors in the Penrith City Centre in 2019, following a successful trial of parking sensors in the Edwards Place car park
  • Planning a new multi-deck car park at Soper Place to provide more new car parking spaces in the Penrith City Centre. This car park is due for completion in late 2020
  • Planning for a new decked car park at Union Road which will have capacity for more than 1,400 cars, and will increase the number of parking spaces in the City Centre by more than 750 spots
