Santa

Santa

Materials

  • Dried leaves (gum leaves provide the best shape for this project).
  • Red, black and white textas, paints or crayon.
  • Brushes of different sizes if using paints.
  • Googly eyes (optional).

Steps

  1. Go for a walk around your yard or neighbourhood and collect the fallen leaves on the ground.
  2. Once you have collected enough leaves, gather the other materials needed and find a flat surface to work on, laying down old newspaper or paper to protect the chosen surface.
  3. Using red texta, crayon, or paint, colour in the top of the leaf 1/3 of the way down to create his hat.
  4. Using black texta, crayon, or paint, add in the two small circles halfway up the leaf to create the eyes, and a triangle or semi-circle 1/4 of the way up the leaf to create the mouth. If you have googly eyes, you can paste these on for eyes instead.
  5. Using the white texta, crayon, or paint, colour at the bottom of the leaf to create the beard, making sure you colour around his mouth. Add a small, thick line underneath his red hat to create the soft fluff found on a Santa’s hat.
  6. Repeat steps to create more Santas.

Once you have enough Santas, you can use these as decorations in many ways! You can place the stem in soil in the garden or pot plants, attach them onto some string and place them on the Christmas tree or use them as garlands for the window, and glue them onto cardboard and make your own Christmas cards.
